My wife was not impressed with today’s performance on SPFIITHD. We played 8 matches, and I won them all, as Ryu each time. Since realising you can press Up on the D-pad to instantly drop blocks (rather than Down which drops them quickly) I’ve been able to improve my skillz somewhat.

Played through X’ Arcade Mode with Akuma, and completed it. I’m not classing the game as complete just yet though, as I have X, Y and Z modes to go yet! Sadly, I missed out on an achievement for finishing Arcade Mode without using a credit, as I underestimated the end of game boss – also Akuma – and he beat me.

Played this some more with my wife. I realised (or rather, re-realised) what the “Counter Gem” pattern does. It’s the pattern of gems that fall on your opponent’s screen when you send gems their way. Knowing the pattern your opponent has chosen is handy, and you can actually use it to your advantage by placing gems in places where counter gems will land and match up. Cunning!
Probably the best two player puzzle game ever made. Ever. Even better that Puzzle Bobble or Puyo Puyo, in my opinion, and my opinion is Right and Good. So I played it with my wife this evening, with me winning most of the rounds, and there being rather too many incidents of just-about-to-die suddenly becoming I’M WINNER! Which is always ace.
